Michelle Sáenz Burrola
I´m a visual artist working through a poetical approach with performance, drawing, moving images, installations, choreography, and books, making an emphasis on the processes and exploring a common platform between the
performing and the visual arts.
Through my work, I propose alternatives to toxic narratives, ones which are perpetuating extractivist-colonial-patriarchal perceptions of the body-territory.
Currently, I´m researching the relationships between the practice of cartography and coloniality, and its effects on the perception of the body, and its position in space. In my research, I embrace concepts such as mutation, distortion, displacement, and re-orientation trying to challenge given relationships between maps, body-territory, representation and affections.
Since 2012, I started collaborating in artistic projects and researches looking for a union
between exhibitions and the production of different cultural processes
beyond the results as mere objects.
I hold an MFA in Performing Arts from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik and a BA in Visual Arts from La Esmeralda, or National School for Painting, Engraving, and Sculpture in Mexico City.
